Friday night

As in Morocco, Shir HaShirim is read every Friday night, with Minha and Arvit for Shabbat. The time changes with the season and is announced in our WhatsApp group each week. To be added to the group, call (416) 633-1874 or write to tiferetisrael18@gmail.com.

If it is your first time

  • The sanctuary is on the main floor. Men and women sit separately.
  • The service is in Hebrew, in the Moroccan rite. If you are used to an Ashkenazi or a different Sephardic service, the order will be familiar and the tunes will not.
  • If you would like an aliyah, are marking a nahala, or are saying Kaddish, tell one of the gabbaim when you arrive.
  • Not sure about something? Ask the person beside you. Somebody will answer in English, French or Spanish.

Travelling to Toronto, or in the neighbourhood for a simha? Call (416) 633-1874 and let us know to expect you.

Nahalot

A nahala is the anniversary of a death, kept each year on the Hebrew date. The family comes to synagogue, Kaddish is said, a hashkava is recited in the name of the person remembered, and very often there is something to eat and a few words of Torah afterwards.

If you would like a nahala announced and listed, send us the name, the Hebrew date if you know it, and the day you plan to come. If you only know the civil date, we will work out the Hebrew one.

Send us a nahala
